ARTIST’S STATMENT “If the truth can be told in a language understood by the , that language would be Art.
Art was our first language; the language of the soul and it was a significant survival tool when we lived in caves struggling to stay alive some 40,000 years ago. Everything our ancestors felt and experiences was expressed through art. This universal visual language was painted on walls of caves, carved in pottery and made into God & Goddess figures used to pray to. Our ancestors viewed these icons to be as real as their own selves and to have powers and knowledge beyond their capabilities. These images were expressions of the soul carrying messages to the conscious mind; messages that go beyond thinking; beyond comprehension or judgment. The messages in art go right to the core of existence...a tool for survival...it is in our blood.
the Shamans of our past were the artists; the mythmakers; the healers. Nature created Shaman to guide humankind through evolution. At one time we thought we had evolved to our limit and discarded the Shamans believing they were no longer needed. We became full with ourselves and knowledge became the thing to believe in. Art turned into an investment or a perfect match for the couch. The soul became dormant and was put on hold...until now. The Shamans are coming back...this time to guide humankind through another evolution...the Conscious Evolution. Mankind has peaked the wave of knowledge and swinging back to nature...I call it going ‘Back To The Future.’

INNER VISION PORTRAITS
People have come to me with photos of their dead loved ones asking me to do portraits of them since I was 14 years old. When done, the response from clients have been no less than amazement at how I captured the person’s essence. Now I go deeper into the symbolic images I receive when creating Inner Vision Portraits and place them right into the painting. It is an honor for me to share a person’s being, in all stages of existence. It is not unusual for a person’s past life shows up in a painting one way or another, and there are some images that come to me that I cannot explain but are part of the mysticism of that person’s life. My near death experiences has opened my psyche to new dimensions of being and it is there that I communicate with others in tune with my universal vibrations. There is no difference if a person is alive or dead, universal vibrations remain forever to be tapped into.
ABOUT MARY SHELL “When you create art you are communicating from your soul”
My career as a professional artist began at the age of 14 and I won my first award at age 6. My connection to my creative process began between the ages of 6 and 7 where I was hospitalized for what was later diagnosed as spinal meningitis and scarlet fever. The deadly combination took my life three times in that hospital with high fevers, infections and the shut down of my organs. Each attempt to revive me was seen as the last. I was quarantined for most of the 13 month and it was then, in total isolation, that I connected with my creative self. With little to do but draw pictures of fairies, animals and the world I was torn from I was able to enhance my imagination to freely travel to new and limitless possibilities within my mind. This was the groundwork for the tools I would use and rely on for the rest of my L.I.F.E...Look Inward For Enlightenment.
Near death experiences cause you to realize how unimportant the issues of life are compared to losing the very essence of life itself. It also gives you insight into the souls of others.
I went on to attend the Rhode Island School of Design and the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts . There I learned techniques and materials, but most of what I created came from my soul. I began studying ancient art, why our ancestors painted their stories on cave walls. I wondered where this ancient spiritual ability disappeared to, why we stopped creating art with such spiritual and soulful purpose and how could we get it back into our lives to be used as a healing tool the way our ancestors did.
I opened an art gallery and studio in Huntington Beach where I created paintings of mythological figures, fairies and ancient icons. I became obsessed with finding the origin of creating art and why it has such an effect on us. I began to give workshops and classes on our ancient creative process and how to tap into the dormant prehistoric DNA that still runs through our veins today. The workshops were successful and people discovered the language within themselves and transformed their lives.
After 10 years of a busy career creating art, giving workshops and holding classes in my studio, I closed my gallery and moved to the redwoods of Marin County, north of San Francisco. I was being called on a journey deep into these massive trees that would take me 5 years to complete. It was there in the womb of Mother Earth’s dark forest that I became aware of the upcoming Conscious Evolution.
I began to see visions of the change and beauty of what was to come. I also became aware that people would need tools to help them make the transformation. And it all became clear; for the past 15 years I had been in training for this transforming time. Everything I had painted in the past; fairies, Greenman, Gods and Goddesses, all part of my effort to awaken and renew the ancient ways of seeing ourselves as part of what we see. Too long has mankind been forced into a belief system that has total disregard to the spirit; a reality void of the sense of self. We live in a demanding environment where our every waken moment is bombarded with the need for material wealth and superficial image, leaving little, if any, room for our true selves to emerge, express and be enlightened.
I became a part of the new Conscious Evolution and began to paint from a totally different place in my reality and spirit. I was painting a new language. As part of the Conscious Evolution I am one of the few who will be preparing the world for it’s new language and way of communicating. This is a language not unfamiliar to us humans. It has been around since man first stood up. It was our first language and it played a curtail part of our survival as a species. Everyone, regardless of the language they speak or where they come from, instantly understands this language at a heartfelt level. It’s the language of art. Art is the center of our awareness. Art forces us to look within ourselves to understand what we are viewing.
Seeing the image of your spirit looking back at you is something I have been working on all my life. I experience the bliss as I create my art, and now I found a way for people to experience the bliss within themselves.
A stranger walked into my gallery one day and as he gazed into one of my paintings he asked me, “Do you know why there are artists in the world?” I shook my head. “It’s to remind us that we have a soul.” he answered.
If we are indeed entering this new Consciousness Evolution we must rid ourselves of the old, socially controlling, easily misunderstood and often misused means of communicating. If we are to enter into this new Conscious Evolution we must learn to see ourselves a part of it; to see within us the seed of our very being; our spirit, for it is there, within ourselves, that we discover who we really are. These portraits are the symbols of inner self; the soul, and as the ancient Shaman painted on cave walls, the intent to guide humanity never fails. For it is there that we will find our truth, purpose and enlightenment. It is only when we look at our soul that we find the Shaman within every human being.
